Mission, Vision & HIT Model

MISSION

It is the mission of River Higher Institute of Technology (HIT) to provide opportunities for students to achieve their career goals and become contributing citizens to the global community.
This is accomplished by offering high-quality professional or career programs to both traditional-aged and adult learners using blended mode. The Institution provides a student-centered, values-based, and diverse learning environment. We take pride in offering small class sizes in a highly personalized setting. We encourage effective teaching, research, scholarly contributions, and service to the greater community by sharing our academic, professional and individual resources.

 VISION

We seek to be a recognized leader among higher educational institutions that excel in effective teaching online, active learning, scholarly research, and responsible engagement with the local community as well as with the national and global communities in which we live.

The HIT Model
HIT has been modeled on the SADC system of education while ensuring that they also meet highly the specifically Namibian standards. It normally takes three years to earn a bachelor degree at level 7, while the honours degree at level 8 will take four years. We have designed an intensive “Block Plan” that allows students to take one course per month or one course at a time and to complete their degrees within three years. This is made possible thanks to our innovative “block plan,” where students take, and tutors teach, only one course at a time in intensive, short “blocks.” Each class takes three hours per day. Each block lasts at least three and a half weeks (or 16 classes); that comes out to 120 classroom hours per course.  Therefore our students have the benefit of concentrating on one subject at a time without sacrificing the actual length of the course work.
